Here we remember just some of Cornwall's great — and not so great, depending on your point of view — clubs with some memories from those who were there. The granddaddy of Cornish clubbing, for more than a decade, starting in the early '80s, Tall Trees enjoyed unparalleled success as the number one nightclub destination in Newquayand one of the best in the South West.

The club, located on Tolcarne Road, is one of the oldest venues in the town and operated for more than 50 years. The three-floor venue, which was briefly renamed Lucifer's in the '90s, suffered something of a decline in the s and eventually closed in At its peak, the club would attract 1, partygoers every Saturday for the entire summer season.

It was open six nights a week, attracting the biggest DJs around. This was the place where I first copped off with my now wife, so I have fond memories of the club with its gallery overlooking the dancefloor. Showing my age. The first of a whole load of west Cornwall clubs that prove iconic for clubbers.

The newquay dance club was in the heart of St Ives. The Penmare and The Bluff in Hayle. A popular one in Penzance in the late '90s and early Noughties, Club Zero held gigs as well as club nights. The Fall bar just one band who played there. A popular live music venue run by comedian Bernard Manning's sister and her husband, it later became a favourite haunt for clubbers and live music fans, with the likes of Feeder gigging there.

Estate agent Roland Woods remembers: "Back in the '70's there was plenty of choice. We always liked the Hayle and St Ives area with the Penmare in Hayle which saw more than its fair share of fights. Over Newquay way, Saturday Tall Trees. As well as visiting artists they also had floor singers, where at local performers had the opportunity to queue up for guest slots.
